This ad-hoc trio recording was made at Okkafest 2013 live at the Sugar Maple in Milwaukee.  Rempis and Daisy are no doubt familiar to Aerophonic Records fans...here they pair up with legendary Ex guitarist Terrie Ex for a fiery and yet humorous set!!  These three truly keep each other on their toes.  Also featured at Okkafest that year were long time friends and collaborators of Terrie's from his ongoing work in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Fendika - an amazing collective of dancers, musicians, and artists who also run an important cultural center in Addis by the same name.

All proceeds raised from sales of this recording will all go towards the "Keep Fendika Grooving" GoFundMe campaign, which is raising donations to help support the Fendika Cultural Center (fendika.org). The Fendika Cultural Center "celebrates and renews Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage. We welcome all creative souls; through exchange of music, dance, art, and poetry, we meditate on humanity’s one-ness, and pray for a peaceful world. Our vision for Fendika is to continue to nurture the artistic community in Addis Ababa, and to grow into one of Africa’s most vibrant centers for artistic innovation and cultural exchange grounded in rich Ethiopian heritage."

All of these activities came to a halt when COVID-19 hit Ethiopia. The Fendika Cultural Center closed their doors in the interest of public health on March 16th, a few days before the government ordered a shut-down for all performance venues. Their international tours in 2020 have been cancelled: Tokyo World Music Festival in celebration of the Olympic (April), multiple tours in Europe (May-July), and a month-long U.S.A. tour (September).

In addition to the 40 band musicians who perform and/or tour with us regularly, Fendika supports 33 salaried employees: Azmari musicians, dancers, waiters, security staff, cashiers, and cleaners. Seven of them live in Fendika. For the moment, due to COVID-19, this organization has no income at all, as their earnings came from international tours, entrance fees, and food/beverage sales during concerts.
